Daily Exercise

Let’s be honest, New Year’s resolutions rarely work. That’s why I don’t make them anymore. However, from time to time, when I find something worthwhile, I will still resolved to do it. I have mixed results. Therefore, leveraging a new technique I just learned, I have vowed that I will resolve to get some exercise, whether it’s kettlebell, push-ups, crunches, squats, or suburi, every day for the next 30 days.

Why? It takes will power to push yourself to do things outside of your comfort zone. Willpower takes energy. However, once something becomes a habit, (which usually takes 21 to 30 days, depending on who you listen to,) it becomes ingrained and you no longer need to expend willpower on it. This frees up your willpower to allow you to tackle other things.
Even though I regularly do things like martial arts, mountain biking, or other forms of exercise, sometimes I fall off the wagon and don’t stick to it. For example during a recent bout of tendinitis I got very little exercise I did however go to a yoga class when I could, but I was definitely more stagnant than usual. The tendinitis was painful, but not completely debilitating, and there are certainly other forms of exercise I could have undertaken to keep active, but I did not. Enough of that!
So what’s going to make this time different? There’s a catch. If I don’t do my exercise and don’t have a damn good reason not to, e.g. a broken leg, pneumonia, kidnapped by pirates, etc., I will give away $1,000 in such a manner so as to not allow me to personally benefit from the expenditure. In other words, I’m going to blow it on something or someone else, but not myself. Wants to keep up to date on my progress? Follow my blog, or my Facebook and Twitter feeds.
