Why do humans have a tendency to “get into our shoulders?” I’ve been pondering this for a while now. When I first started practicing aikido, my sensei told me that I was “very much in my head.” These days, I feel like I’ve settled down from being in my head to more “in my shoulders.” Continue reading “Shoulder Tension”
On Aikido and Injuries
If there’s one thing I’ve got experience with, it’s injuries. As always, I don’t claim to be an expert here, but with a broken clavicle, broken femur, sublexed patella, subluxed wrist bones, bursitis, and a psoas that can best be described as “too tight,” I definitely have some experience with training under less than optimal bodily conditions. My Thoughts on Yahoo! Search as Default for Ubuntu's Firefox
Last month Canonical announced that they would switch the default search provider from Google to Yahoo! in the Firefox browser that ships with Ubuntu as of version 10.04. Continue reading “My Thoughts on Yahoo! Search as Default for Ubuntu's Firefox”
Blogging on Aikido
I’ve decided to start chronicling some of my thoughts and experiences on aikido here on my blog. While I’ve mentioned things from time time time, I’ve really only cited the fact that I’ve been at a seminar here and there, or referenced some other aikido-related website. Book Review: Everyday Enlightenment
I recently read Everyday Enlightenment: The Twelve Gateways to Personal Growth by Dan Millman. In summary, if you think you need to read this book, you do, and if you don’t think you need to read this book, you still probably do. Continue reading “Book Review: Everyday Enlightenment”
Bethel Town Office: Still Can't Get Through
I'm Single
I just got a letter from the Windsor County Family Court, ordering my divorce. A year and a half later, I’m finally free. I’d like to again thank all of my friends who were so supportive during this trying time, because it sure as hell wasn’t easy.
Love and peace to all. It’s a good day.
Quickly Determine What Version of Ubuntu You Have
If you have several machines running Ubuntu, or several versions installed on the same machine, you may, like me, sometimes forget what version you have are running presently. A quick and easy way to do this is with the following command:
lsb_release -a
An example of the output on my system is as follows:
peter@peeeter-karmic:~$ lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: Ubuntu
Description:?? ?Ubuntu 9.10
Release:?? ???? 9.10
Codename:?? ??? karmic
It's Time To Be Lucid
Yesterday, while fiddling with my eeePC and attempting to install Crunchbang on an SD card, I accidentally nuked my GRUB config. Note to self: GRUB and GRUB2 = Oil and water. I started to look at the process of repairing the dreaded GRUB error 21, and then decided that this was a good opportunity to just try Lucid Lynx alpha 1. After all, I have a separate /home partition and my machine was already not booting, so what did I have to lose? Continue reading “It's Time To Be Lucid”
Book Review: I'm on Facebook – Now What???
I just read I’m on Facebook–Now What???: How to Get Personal, Business, and Professional Value from Facebook. While the majority of this 100 page book was review for me, I would recommend it to anyone who is brand new to Facebook or social networking in general.
