Book Review: Christopher Moore's Fluke: Or, I Know Why the Winged Whale Sings.

I recently read Christopher Moore’s Fluke: Or, I Know Why the Winged Whale Sings. As always, he delivers a clever, funny, entertaining work of fiction which should not be missed.In Fluke (a novel), Moore fuses elements of modern science and research (marine biology) with “magic” to come up with a new and refreshing blend of sci-fi. As always, he does it with plenty of humor.
The novel is set in mainly Hawaii, and, while it does get off to a slow start, due to a good bit of development of character backgrounds (cool-headed photographer Clay, host intern Amy, always-stoned Surfer/Rasta/kid from New Jersey Kona, and several others), it is well worth the wait. It begins when Nathan Quinn, the main character, photographs a humpback whale with the words “BITE ME” painted onto its tail. This mystery leads Quinn and his colleagues down a hilarious path of mystery and adventure with many unexpected twists.
If you like Christopher Moore’s other works, I give Fluke a hearty thumbs up and recommend you yourself get a copy.
