This week I finished reading Dan Millman’s The Journeys of Socrates: An Adventure. I decide to read it after seeing the movie Peaceful Warrior with my friend Kent last fall. The Journeys of Socrates is the semi-fictional biography of Sergei Ivanov, the man who becomes Millman’s mentor in the Peacful Warrior. I won’t go into details, but it is a thrilling adventure that takes the young boy from a Russian military school through various adventures all over Russia and the Ukraine, Tibet, and other places. Socrates encounters many individuals who mentor him in his own studies as he himself struggles to become a peaceful warrior, paving the way for Millman in his later books.
I highly recommend this book to anyone who likes inspiration, martial arts, or just a plain good story. I’m looking forward to reading the rest of Millman’s works in the coming months.
